If you’re looking for an Alberta engagement photographer, I have years of experience. In either a stand alone session, or part of your wedding package, I am down to shoot it.
Where to go.
In regards to location, I ask couples if there is either something they love to do together that we could make into a session, or simply what types of backdrops they would like. Greenery, cityscapes, mountains or home, I love them all. Having coffee at your favourite spot, taking your dog for a walk or going for a hike, I’m down.
What to wear.
For outfits I say at least two: one more casual, and one more dressed up. Dresses are always fun to shoot. For the man, this doesn’t have to mean a suit. Layers can take any outfit up a notch. A t-shirt with a jacket or open button up does wonders. Jeans are always an option (not bright blue haha), but tan, black or coloured pants can also look great.
As for colours, it’s always good to take the scenery into account when planning. But the basic rule is to avoid bright, fluorescent colours. Neutral, muted, earth tones are juicy to work with. Deep greens or blues, burgundy, tan, cream, white! All awesome choices and easy to pair with each other. As for pattern, my usual rule is to avoid large print. Adding texture is also awesome. Knit, corduroy, ruffles, sheer. They all can make for a mixing and matching that helps you to look your best.
Just be you.
Even with all the information above, I always always always tell my couples to make sure you’re comfortable. Top priority. The last thing you want to be thinking about during your session is if things are squeezing or pulling. The focus should be on one another and having FUN!
My engagement sessions incorporate movement, and encourage talking, laughing and just being together. I will happily lead you through the motions, while also taking advantage of the quiet, sweet moments that arise. It’s a balance, and I love it.
